LOCATION:

The ERC Engineer will support the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Aviation and Missile Center (AvMC) Weapons Development and Integration Directorate (WDI) located on Redstone Arsenal, AL neighboring Huntsville, AL.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Engineer will conduct data evaluation, interpretation, and perform documentation of different types of high performance missile propulsion systems including solid, liquid, and air breathing propulsion systems.  The Engineer may utilize software to conduct analysis of test data and make propulsion system performance predictions.  The Engineer may design, plan, and conduct a variety of different systems, to include facilities and structures, used for tactical missile propulsion research and development.  The Engineer will work with manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer representatives for missile programs.

The Engineer may provide rapid fabrication, test design, reverse engineering, static testing, data analysis, and reporting of many propulsion and missile related test articles.  Tasks may include, but are not limited to, managing test projects, providing mechanical design support for test fixtures, performing analysis of test components in order to design these test fixtures to the required 5 to 1 safety factor, instrumentation identification, creating drawings for machine shop part fabrication, specifying component requirements, researching components based on specifications, reverse engineering of propulsion concepts, and evaluating propulsion concepts for performance against a specification.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited College/University (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred).
  • Experience in design and fabricating components per engineering drawings is preferred.
  • Solid grasp of primary mechanical engineering courses: mechanical design, structures, statics/dynamics, etc.
  • Ability to participate as a team member.
  • Good interpersonal & organizational skills.
  • Good written & spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to test & troubleshoot systems.
  • Ability to obtain certification in handling Ammunition and Explosives.
  • Experience in CAD/CAM – Solidworks experience is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance.
  • Must be willing to work with, around, and handle explosives and/or hazardous chemicals.
  • Since the job will entail working with and around hazardous materials, strong attention to detail is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. 
  • Must be capable of lifting heavy objects. 
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) preferred. 
  • Travel may be required approximately 10% of the time.
