THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
ERC, Inc as part of the TOSC team, provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks support the International Space Station, Exploration Ground Systems, the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Launch Services programs.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as Human Factors Engineer in support of Ground Systems Design Projects.
- Participate as stakeholder in design process including drawing reviews, hardware walk-downs, software or display reviews, witnessing demonstrations and tests, documentation and report generation.
- Provide Human Factors inputs to hardware design and/or SW development processes.
- Apply or verify requirements using FAA Human Factors Design Standard HF-STD-001.
- Apply NASA standards to spacecraft or commodity processing.
- Develop Human Factors documentation, perform acceptance data package reviews, operational task analyses, as well as identify and track risk reductions and mitigations.
- Provide Human Factors support to develop documentation and mitigations for process safety management, process hazard analyses, and manload reports.
- Facilitate Industrial Engineering improvements related to Human Factors or operational readiness.
- Depending on the project type, tasks can vary among conceptual or new designs, revisions to existing designs, and/or modifications to existing structures, ground support equipment, shop aids, subsystems, or integrated systems.
- Successfully interface with the NASA customer and other client representatives by supporting or presenting at a variety of customer-led forums or boards.
- Evaluate results and document benefits while continuously improving upon past precedence.
- Support department schedules and deliverables within project time constraints.
- Implement efficient and effective quality, safety, and housekeeping standards.
- Participate in a motivated and productive work environment that encourages high employee performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
BS degree in an applicable engineering discipline from an accredited university plus five (5) years or more of progressive and relevant experience. Additional relevant education and certifications may be substituted for a portion of the experience.
- Demonstrated engineering skills as evidenced by prior review, project, implementation, and/or technical experience.
- Experience providing engineering support to hardware design, manufacturing, assembly, test, and anomaly resolution.
- Experience in providing Human Factors inputs to the hardware design process strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with OSHA and application of general safety requirements related to human system integration.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry, NASA, and/or other relevant industry standards is required.
- Experience with Human Factors requirements and processes, including FAA HF-STD-001 or MIL-STD-1472; including applicability to hardware and software designs, verifications, and operational or risk mitigations is highly desired.
- Experience with NPR8705.2 Human-Rating Requirements for Space Systems preferred; including human error analysis, workload assessment, and human performance evaluations, verifications, and documentation.
- Thorough understanding of KSC/NASA processes and standards is highly desired.
- Experience with NASA standards, spacecraft or commodity processing is preferred.
- Knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management Systems: Aviation, Space & Defense Organizations and Human Factors aspects preferred.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, presentation, and customer interface skills.
- Must be well organized, flexible, and capable of effectively prioritizing several multidisciplinary projects.
- Application of Industrial Engineering roles: Lean Six Sigma, 6S organization, optimization, operational readiness, shop layouts, and related process improvement or risk reduction functions preferred.
- Ability to follow established safety, quality, and performance protocols.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary.
- Requires ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and participate in outdoor test/demonstration activities.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
- Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Work Environment
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
- Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company
- Safety standards.
Equipment and Machines
- Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.
- Variety of equipment used in testing.
Attendance
- Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
- Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Shift work may be required.
Other Essential Functions
- Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.
- Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
- Government security clearance may be required in the future.
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
